POSITION OF MEDICAL SCIENCE IN THE CULTURE OF THE INFORMATION SOCIETY. PROFESSIONALS VS. AMATEURS

Summary

The problem bringing up in this text is the place of medicine in the information society, in the context of contemporary cultural change. For purposes of this study I treat medicine as part of the culture. The impetus for the creation of this text is currently ongoing discourse about the future of knowledge in terms of universal access to the Internet. This discussion also bringing up the question of the shape of the traditional scientific and educational institutions, and sometimes even the sense of the development of various branches of science. The article is therefore an attempt to answer the question about the stability of the cultural foundations of science (including medicine, primarily) in the face of pervasive ICT revolution. It is also an attempt to answer the question about the impact of the culture of the Internet on pro and anti-medical behaviors of users.
