MOBILE GUIDE TO A UNIVERSITY AS AN EXAMPLE OF THE MOBILE LOCALIZATION SERVICES IN THE INTELLIGENT CITY

Summary

Intensive agglomeration development should be accompanied by increasing quality of life and services that facilitate it. One of the most important tasks of the intelligent city should be aiding movement both of it’s residents (permanent and temporary) and guests within it’s boundaries. Realization of such goal is easier these days thanks to the advanced mobile devices providing tools and geolocalization services, as well as popularization of the mobile access to the Internet (i.e. via hot spots or GSM providers).
From the perspective of the academic community, both students and faculty, particularly important is to move smoothly within universities campuses. Availability of IT solutions which facilitate such activity positively infl uences the image of the university and thus the city, that can aspire to become intelligent.
Therefore, this article presents the objectives, implementation and development perspectives of the computer system adapted to mobile devices and designed for people moving within the campus of the Lublin University of Technology. The article can serve as an aid in overcoming the difficulties associated with the localization within the vast educational and scientific centers, as well as the points of general interest such as the government buildings.
