Streszczenie
W artykule przedstawiono rozważania nad jednym z głównych uczestników rynku finansowego – funduszy hedge. W pierwszej części zaprezentowano fundusze hedge na tle funduszy powierniczych za pomocą zasadniczych różnic między nimi. W kolejnej przeprowadzono analizę sektora funduszy hedge wraz z omówieniem wartości aktywów w zarządzaniu funduszami hedge w latach 1997–2012. W ostatniej, będącej główną częścią opracowania, przedstawiono uwagi dotyczące przyszłości instytucjonalnej tych funduszy, nawiązując w ten sposób do hipotezy o prawdopodobnej konwergencji między funduszami hedge i powierniczymi.

THE FUTURE OF HEDGE FUNDS IN THE WORLD AND IN POLAND
Summary
In the article there are presented some considerations associated with the one of the financial market participants – hedge funds. The first part presents the hedge funds on the background of trust funds explaining main discrepancies between them. The next part contains the analysis of the hedge funds sector and the debriefing of assets value in managing hedge funds in 1997–2012. The last and main part accounts for some thoughts concerning institutional future of those objects when the probable convergence between hedge and mutual funds is concerned.
