CONDITION OF WATER AND SEWAGE INFRASTRUKTURE IN RURAL AREAS IN POLAND AND THE REQUIREMENTS OF THE WATER FRAMEWORK DIRECTIVE
Summary
Polish accession to become a Member of the European Union required our country to meet several conditions. The most difficult areas of negotiations were sector of agriculture and ecological policy, particularly in the scope of quality of environment. First of all, in range of ecological policy UE law has been transferred to our law. However, improvement of state and environmental conditions including water resources means implementation of the principles of sustainable development and this is the challenge more difficult because of huge negligence in this range.
The longest transition periods by reason of the large disparities we managed to get in water management in rural areas. Most of all it concerned the issue of water and sewage management system in these areas. In accordance with the requirements of The Water Framework Directive the state of water and sewage infrastructure in non-urbanized areas must be attained by the end of 2015. In the article is presented the level of water and sewage infrastructure in 2009 and the possibility of achieving the objectives under the WFD.
